PR’s greatest hits
During the 2012 World Choir Games, July 4-14, 2012, the city of Cincinnati will host approximately 364 choirs from more than 60 countries. Vehr Communications is excited and proud to be a part of the Games as a sponsor and partner in the event’s PR and strategic communications initiatives.
With music on our minds 24/7 leading up to the Opening Ceremonies, I’ve compiled a list of well-known song titles that may shed some light on relevant PR realities. Can you add to the list?
School’s Out (Alice Cooper): Summer interns, listen up. Many of you have just graduated and thoughts of real life applications to your education are at the forefront of your mind. Keep the dreams alive, soak up all the info you can and have fun in the process.
When The Levee Breaks (Led Zeppelin): Do you have a crisis communications plan in place? You never know when disaster will strike – plan ahead and be prepared for the flood …
Hold On To What You Believe (Mumford & Sons): In an age when PR and strategic communications practices are constantly being scrutinized and examined for transparency and truth, be true to who you are and who you represent.
The Times They Are a-Changin’ (Bob Dylan): The role of social media platforms is completely changing our lives, both personally and professionally. At Vehr Communications, we’re gauging Greater Cincinnati business professionals’ social media tendencies via our Third Annual Social Media Usage Survey. How has social media changed your life?
With A Little Help From My Friends (Joe Cocker*): There will come a time when you’ll need to rely on co-workers to help you in a crisis situation, educate you on an industry with which you’re unfamiliar or even stay after work to help stuff M&Ms into party favors for a client’s event. Be sure to thank them for all they do – Winnie Cooper would be proud.
Let It Be (The Beatles): The world of PR can and will challenge you. Instead of letting it get to you, ‘let it be’ and have faith that you’ll overcome it all – there’s always light at the end of the tunnel.
Whoomp! (There It Is) (Tag Team): You know that feeling when you win a piece of new business knowing that you’ve gone up against some of the best competition out there … Whoomp, there it is!
Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana): Millennials have a voice and they know it. From social media to new marketing initiatives, young talent continues to shine in the digital world. Don’t forget to tap into the energy they bring to the table.
I Heard It Through The Grapevine (Marvin Gaye): Network! Take advantage of the chances you get to meet others in your industry and always be on the lookout for new opportunities to make an impression on prospective clients.
It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere (Alan Jackson & Jimmy Buffet): PR can be stressful. Every once in a while, you need to kick back, relax and enjoy life. Hurricane, anyone?
*For those of you who are screaming, “Dan, the Beatles recorded ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ before Joe Cocker!” – I know. Kudos to those of you who picked out The Wonder Years plug.
